United Supermarkets donates 1,000 pairs of socks to the Salvation Army of Lubbock through Apples & Pears on a Mission initiative
LUBBOCK, Texas — On Tuesday, United Supermarkets donated 1,000 pairs of socks to the Salvation Army of Lubbock. This is the sixth year The United Family has teamed up with Rainer Fruits to make this donation.
The donation stems from a program called “Apples and Pears on a Mission.” Throughout the fall and winter months of 2024, a portion of the proceeds from purchasing Rainier Fruit pears and apples went to buying brand-new socks to donate to organizations that support the homeless community.
“For some, a new pair of socks can make a world of difference,” said Joseph Bunting, produce business director for The United Family. “That’s why we are so grateful to partner with Rainier Fruits to do this program for the sixth year. We are also thankful to our guests for participating and helping us positively impact our community.”
The donation of socks in Lubbock is just one of six donations across the state. Over the last week, The United Family and Rainier Fruit have donated a total of 5,000 pairs of socks to charitable organizations in Texas. Throughout the six years of this program, the two companies have donated more than 30,000 pairs of socks.
The following organizations will receive socks through this year’s program:
- Salvation Army of Amarillo
- Salvation Army of Midland
- Salvation Army of Odessa
- Salvation Army of Lubbock
- Salvation Army of Abilene
- Faith Mission of Wichita Falls
