(Albuquerque, New Mexico) – Albertsons Market will remove all single-use plastic bags in Albuquerque stores ahead of Albuquerque’s point-of-sale plastic ban ordinance, ahead of the January 1, 2020, implementation date. Single-use plastic bags will also be removed from Albertsons Market locations in Los Lunas, Rio Rancho and Taos, joining Santa Fe stores in being free of single-use plastic bags at check-out.
Guests have the option to choose either recyclable paper bags or purchase reusable bags, available near check stands at a nominal cost. Albertsons Market currently pays guests five cents for each reusable bag brought for grocery purchases.
Albertsons Market strives to operate in a manner that improves the quality of life in the communities we serve. We continually work to incorporate sustainability into the core of our business operations and processes with the hopes of becoming a more efficient consumer and steward of our planet’s valuable resources. In 2018, our company recycled 848,000 pounds of plastic which would have otherwise gone to landfills.
