The Safety of our Team Members, Guests and Communities is our Primary Concern

As we all navigate this public health crisis together, the health and safety of our team members, guests, and communities is the first priority of The United Family, as we also work to ensure our guests have access to the food, medications and other essential goods they need at this critical time.

We have consistently followed all CDC guidelines and have been regularly updating our policies and communicating to our teams throughout this crisis. Our stores have implemented a number of safety measures, including:

Enhanced social distancing through one-way traffic: Stores have places directional arrows on the floors to promote one-way foot traffic through stores, including up and down aisles. This is in addition to decals already on the floor marking off 6-foot spaces at the check stands and other areas that can cause lines to form like the deli, bakery, meat, seafood and pharmacy departments.

Limited store occupancy: To promote social distancing further, all stores are limiting how many guests are allowed inside at one time to less than 20 percent of the maximum occupancy.

Health screenings: Team members must complete and pass a COVID health screening and a temperature check prior to beginning their shift. Vendors must follow the same protocol as team members.

Dedicated cleaning staff: To maintain enhanced cleaning and disinfecting, stores have designated sanitation teams, exclusively responsible for cleaning surfaces throughout the stores.

Masks for all store team members: All team members are required to wear a mask while working or shopping in the store.

Additional Measures include:

  • Installing Plexiglas sneeze guards at check stands.
  • Placing social distancing posters and floor markers in the stores.
  • Pausing self-service operations like soup bars, wing bars, and salad bars.
  • Enhancing measures to clean and disinfect all departments, restrooms, and other high touch points of the store throughout the day.
  • Making cart wipes and hand sanitizer stations available
  • Ensuring that store team members are able to wash their hands at least one time per hour and
  • Waiving fees for pharmacy prescription delivery.
  • Reserving special times for seniors and other vulnerable shoppers who must leave home to obtain their groceries.
