Amigos hosts annual Carnitas Cook-Off, expands event with classic cars & food trucks

LUBBOCK, Texas — On Saturday, June 22, Amigos stores across the area will each host the annual Carnitas Cook-Off competition from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Guests can compete for prizes and the award of best carnitas.

In addition to the Carnitas Cook-off, Amigos locations will simultaneously host a classic and vintage Car Show. Food trucks will also be hosted on-site for participants and community members attending the event as spectators.

The locations hosting these competitions include the Amigos locations in Lubbock, Plainview, Hereford, and Amarillo. Guests can sign up in-store or online to participate in either contest. Entry is free for both and limited to the first 25 guests who sign up at each location. If space is available, guests can sign up on the day of the contest before judging begins. Judging times for the Carnitas Cook-Off will occur between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Judging for the Car Show will occur at 11:00 a.m.

Contestants will need to make enough carnitas to serve each of the three judges for possibly two rounds in the event of a tie.

“We are so excited to host the Carnitas Cook-Off once again,” said Rebekah Bernal, Hispanic innovation manager for The United Family. “We are also excited to expand this event with the Car Show. We hope these competitions will allow people in the community to gather together for a fun day of friendly competition and great food. There is still room for participants at every location, so come in and sign up today!”
