Albertsons Market & Market Street stand ready to serve guests as USDA’s Summer EBT program alleviates summer hunger

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albertsons Market and Market Street locations in New Mexico stand ready to serve guests as people across the state take advantage of the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) new Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer for Children Program (Summer EBT), also known as SUN Bucks.

For millions of kids across the country who rely on free and reduced-cost meals at school, summer can mean a lack of access to nutritious food. To help alleviate this problem, the USDA launched Summer EBT, a new program available in 37 states, including New Mexico.

The program provides grocery benefits to low-income families with school-aged children during the summer when school is out. Eligible families will receive $120 per eligible school-aged child to purchase groceries.

“Our teams stand ready to serve guests taking advantage of the Summer EBT program,” said Abie Rampy, director of public relations for The United Family. “This program is helping alleviate hunger for millions of kids across the country this summer, and we hope our guests in New Mexico will use the extra help if they need it.”

Families can use the website SummerEBT.org for a simple, fast way to check if they are eligible for the Summer EBT program. This website will also connect them with the New Mexico sign-up site. The site also provides an FAQ section that can answer many of the questions surrounding the new program.
